Snow-crusted Lake Erie

The east coast is blasted by a historical storm–over two feet of snow in Washington. Airports from NC to New England are closed.

For once, the worst weather in the eastern part of the country isn’t over us here in NE Ohio. The weather has been very winter-like lately but, overall, the winter has been on the milder side. Lake Erie, as you can see in this photo I took this morning from my backyard, has frozen over. But this happened over the last few days. Typically, the lake is frosted by the first week of January.

It’s sunny as I write, but there is still a lot of winter ahead of us. Some of our worst weather occurs in February.

The snow-crusted lake, a frozen tundra stretching to the horizon, always amplifies the winter-ness of winter.
