Ice and snow be gone!

The last of the ice and snow melted away last night. Here is a shot of Lake Erie taken from my studio this morning. The horizon is lost in the distance; it’s impossible to tell where water ends and sky starts.

Winter stays center stage

The winter of ’14 has been the coldest in recent memory. Lake Erie remains frozen, as can be seen in this recent photo from my bedroom balcony. Take cheer! Summer will return and transform the lake into scenes like this one:

Cold beauty of frozen Lake Erie

The long shadows from the afternoon sun transforms Lake Erie into an otherworldly landscape. During the winter the sun is in the southwestern sky. In the summer it moves over the lake; by June it would be visible in the photo’s left edge. The predicted high temperate for next Tuesday is -3–that’s not windchill, either.…

The light was poor this morning but improved as the day worn on; eventually the sun made an appearance. March has been an extension of February which was an extension of January–in other words, it’s been non-stop winter. This photo was taken early this morning.
