Backslide

I know me. When I finish a painting, if I don’t put it away I’ll find something to fix or improve. Paintings never get finished that way. It’s the deepest and rabbit-ity of all rabbit holes.

I finished this painting, Phone Call on Main Street, some time ago, but every time I look at it, I start arguing with myself. I have to fight the urge to pick up the brush.

This morning I lost (won?) the argument and improved what needed improving. I worked on it for an hour before starting on today’s planned work. Who knows if I’ll go down this road again? But when I put down my brush, my eye was finally satisfied. It’s the only way I know how to do it.
