A visit to the Cleveland Museum of Art’s Asian collection

Cleveland Museum of Art's New Atrium

The Cleveland Museum of Art recently rotated its vast Asian collection, which I happily discovered during Friday’s visit. After a Caesar salad in the Atrium cafeteria–‘extra anchovies, please’–I started my weekly ramble in the galleries above the cafeteria where the Asian collection is housed. Major museums, like Cleveland,  rotate parts of their collection all the…

The NY Times recently ran a piece about visiting art museums. I consider myself something of an expert on the subject, and I’m writing a post about the article, which–knock on wood!–I’ll publish soon.

As readers know, I average one visit per week to museums. So far this year, I’ve visited the Cleveland Museum of Art 30+ times, and the Met 4 times. I am going to the Cleveland Museum later today. Aside from the staff, I probably visit the Cleveland Museum of Art more than anyone in the world.

One Hundred Birds

For those who love Asian art, as I do, the Cleveland Museum of Art is an oasis.  Cleveland has one of the best Asian collections in N. I haven’t been to the Cleveland Museum of Art in several weeks. After visiting the Met last Friday, I thought I might forgo my weekly visits to the Cleveland museum for awhile. Although Cleveland is a fine museum, it’s not the Met. But here it is, a mere week later and I am hot to visit the museum again. So I am going later today. I also plan a trip to the Met in three weeks.

Review: 43rd Student Show The Galleries at CSU

This is my second review of a Cleveland State U. student exhibition. Like last year’s show, the quality is student-grade but compares well with student shows at higher profile schools, like the Cleveland Institute of Art. The biggest difference between the two is that students at the latter produce more formal conceptional pieces. Also like last year’s show there…

Spring? You bet!

Those aren’t whitecaps on Lake Erie but ice flows loosened from the thawing ice–but I’ll take it! We knew spring was finally arriving when we were able to keep the bedroom door open to last night’s warm breezes. It’s still too soon to hear the soothing sound of rolling waves, but–man o’ man!–it is sweet…

I plan on visiting the Cleveland Museum of Art’s exhibition van Gogh Repetitions later today. It will be my third visit to see it. The show has a number of first rate van Gogh’s and the theme–the artist copying himself–is interesting. I will write more about it later.
